Mark your calendars for an unforgettable celebration of street food culture at Eataly Yorkville for the latest edition of the Icons of Eataly series. Running from September 20 to October 6, this installment focuses on the vibrant, flavourful world of street food, a culinary tradition beloved in Italy and beyond. At the heart of the celebration is the Street Food Fest on September 27, from 5 to 10 p.m., where the entire second floor of Eataly will become a lively, block party-style street food market.
What to Expect at Street Food Fest
This is your chance to sample the best of Italian and Toronto street food in one place. Eataly’s chefs have curated a special menu of over 20 new dishes inspired by Italy’s diverse regions, each telling a story through ingredients and flavours, available at their grab-and-go counters and restaurants. From the crispy arancini and suppli to the savoury and satisfying panzerotti, and sweet treats like bombolone filled with creamy gelato, there’s something for every taste bud.
These dishes represent Italy’s rich street food culture, which spans from North to South, offering a variety of flavours, techniques, and ingredients. For instance, Cuzzetiello Napoletano brings the rustic charm of Naples to the table, with its bread rolls filled with rich, flavourful condiments. You’ll also get to try Pizza Fritta, a fried version of pizza dough that’s crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, topped with delicious Italian ingredients. These dishes reflect centuries-old traditions that have been passed down through generations..
But that’s just half of the fun! Eataly’s Street Food Fest also features seven local Toronto street food vendors, each bringing their own spin on street food from around the world. Whether you’re craving something savoury, spicy, or sweet, these vendors will have you covered with unique dishes prepared just for this event. It’s a chance to explore Toronto’s thriving food scene while enjoying Eataly’s Italian offerings.
More Than Just Food
The Street Food Fest is about so much more than just eating – it’s a full sensory experience. Throughout the course of the program, Eataly specialists and special guests will be hosting educational workshops and labs, where you can learn about the history and traditions behind the iconic street food you’re tasting. Whether you're interested in mastering the art of making Panino col Polpo or exploring the rich history of an Italian classic, Suppli, there’s plenty to discover.
Why You Can’t Miss This Event
This block party is non-ticketed and completely free to attend, making it the perfect Friday night plan with friends or family. The event will feature a range of affordable dishes priced between $5 and $20, ensuring there’s something for everyone. You’ll be able to walk through the marketplace, enjoy the lively atmosphere, and sample as many dishes as you like, all while learning about the fascinating history behind some of Italy’s most beloved street food items.
Beyond the block party, Icons of Eataly: Street Food will continue throughout October 6, with special programming, exclusive menus, and cooking workshops at Eataly’s La Scuola. Whether you’re a street food aficionado or just curious about trying something new, this series has something for everyone. It’s an opportunity to explore the rich culinary traditions of Italy, as well as the vibrant street food scene of Toronto.
